What is Hegemon?

Targeted scaffolding, not generic hints

Common AI tutors respond to wrong answers by restating the rule the student is already struggling with. Hegemon is different. It detects the specific type of error a student made—using a taxonomy of subject misconceptions—and scaffolds a Socratic dialogue limited to that topic.

This demo shows the full interaction loop: a short reading lesson, a ten-question quiz (coordinate plotting and quadrant identification), and live Hegemon responses whenever the student's answer reveals a detectable misconception.

Note: None of the Hegemon Learning Guide responses in this demo are hard-coded. All output represents the actual behavior of the AI as bounded by relevant subject pedagogy.

How to use this demo

Read the lesson

The coordinate-plane lesson introduces vocabulary and conventions. This sample lesson is designed for grade 4 or 5 math learners.
Take the quiz

Six plotting questions and four quadrant-identification questions. Use the Back and Next buttons to move through them. Plot a point by clicking on the grid.
Chat with Athena

Students engage with Athena, the Hegemon tutor, through three different routes. They tap any underlined term in the lesson. They press the Hegemon help button that is persistent in the right margin of the lesson. Or they make multiple mistakes on a quiz. Two mistakes trigger a scaffolding sequence.
Follow the dialogue

Athena never states the correct answer. It uses pedagogy metdata in the lesson and analyzes student quiz errors, using topic misconceptions to identify where the student is struggling. Athena confirms understanding through conversation and interaction. When unable to assist the student, Hegemon redirects them to their human teacher.
